Discover a unique path to healing designed to support veterans navigating trauma, stress, transition, and recovery.
Find Strength, Healing, and Connection Through Equine-Assisted Therapy
Our veteran-focused equine-assisted therapy program provides a safe, supportive environment where military veterans can partner with horses to promote healing, resilience, and personal growth. Through guided interactions with horses, participants develop trust, communication skills, emotional awareness, confidence, and stress-management tools in a calm, nonjudgmental setting.
Designed specifically with veterans in mind, the program recognizes the unique experiences of military service, transition, trauma, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and reintegration challenges. No riding experience is necessary. Sessions may include groundwork, grooming, leading, mindfulness exercises, and team-building activities led by trained equine specialists and mental health professionals.
Benefits may include:
- Reduced stress and anxiety
- Improved emotional regulation
- Increased confidence and self-esteem
- Stronger connection and trust
- Peer support and camaraderie
- Enhanced coping and communication skills
Whether transitioning to civilian life, managing service-related challenges, or simply seeking connection and purpose, veterans are welcomed into a respectful community where healing happens one step at a time — alongside the steady presence of horses.
Open to veterans of all eras and branches.
Healing begins with connection.
About Equine-Assisted Therapy for Substance Use Treatment
People struggling with addiction often have difficulty trusting others or understanding their own emotions. Horses are highly sensitive to body language and mood, so they respond honestly and immediately. This helps individuals recognize their emotional state in real time while encouraging authentic communication and trust-building without judgment.
Caring for a horse—feeding, grooming, leading—requires consistency and patience.
- Reinforces routine and accountability, which are often disrupted by addiction
- Teaches impulse control and delayed gratification
- Provides a sense of purpose and accomplishment
Equine therapy sessions often involve guided activities with therapists.
- Participants practice clear communication and boundary-setting
- Horses mirror inconsistent or unclear cues, helping people refine how they interact with others
- Builds healthy relationship skills, important for long-term recovery
Spending time outdoors with animals can be deeply calming.
- Lowers stress and anxiety, which are common relapse triggers
- Encourages mindfulness and being present
- Offers a healthy, non-substance-related way to cope with difficult feelings
Working with such a large, powerful animal can be empowering.
- Success in tasks builds confidence and self-worth
- People begin to see themselves as capable and trustworthy
- This shift can strengthen motivation to stay sober
Equine therapy helps people in addiction recovery reconnect with themselves and others in a practical, experiential way. It’s especially useful for those who struggle to engage with traditional talk therapy alone.
