Alcoholics Anonymous of St. Louis
AA is an international mutual aid fellowship founded in 1935 with the goal of helping members stay sober and helping other alcoholics achieve sobriety. Since its inception, the 12-step approach to recovery has helped millions of people transform their lives
The Alcoholics Anonymous of St. Louis website provides a convenient way to access recovery resources and learn more about meetings in the area. If you’re looking for sober social activities, you’ll find information about trivia nights, meals, dances, camping trips, and more. You can also call 314-647-3677 Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Wednesday 8:30 am to 7:00 pm, or Saturday 9:00 am to noon to learn more about how AA can be a part of your recovery journey.
North Road Church in Moscow Mills offers a free Bible-based recovery program every Friday from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm. The evening begins with refreshments and socializing, followed by large group, small group, and gender-specific activities and worship. No signup or registration is necessary and you are welcome to attend even if you’re not a formal member of the church. Child care is provided free of charge.
The Celebrate Recovery program is offered around the United States, so there are several other churches in Missouri with similar events.
Pike County Center for Women’s Ministry
The Pike County Center for Women’s Ministry is a non-profit agency for women that provides no-cost Christian counseling and support groups. Services are non-denominational with the goal of promoting emotional and spiritual healing. In addition to offering substance abuse recovery support, they work with women struggling with issues such as codependency, depression, eating disorders, unplanned pregnancy, relationship difficulties, childhood trauma, and low self-esteem.
The Pike County Center for Women’s Ministry is affiliated with the International Center for Women’s Ministries, Inc., a non-profit organization based in Bloomington, Indiana with groups around the country as well as internationally. Visit the Center for Women’s Ministries website to learn more.
Missouri Opioid State Targeted Response
The Missouri Opioid State Targeted Response (Opioid STR) project works to support individuals with opioid use disorders. Their website offers a number of informational resources and links for people interested in seeking treatment. This includes information about how to obtain Naloxone, which can reverse a potentially fatal opioid overdose.
Missouri Opioid STR has also funded four Recovery Community Centers (RCCs) throughout the state. These independent non-profit organizations provide services such as recovery coaching, telephone-based recovery services, recovery meetings, and life skill groups. There are two RCCs in St. Louis, one in Springfield, and one in Kansas City.
Missouri Network for Opiate Reform and Recovery
The Missouri Network for Opiate Reform and Recovery is a non-profit association that aims to address substance use through prevention, education, and advocacy. They help people plan interventions for their loved ones, offer information about treatment resources, and provide Narcan training for interested individuals or organizations.
Despite the name, however, the organization’s services are not limited to opiate abuse. They will help anyone struggling with a substance use disorder in the greater St. Louis area. This includes assistance with obtaining recovery support, employment, and safe housing.
Missouri Recovery Network
Founded in 1999, the Missouri Recovery Network is a statewide recovery advocacy organization training and educating people in recovery about the mental health/behavioral health care system, policy, advocacy, and systems change. Healthy Minds, Healthy Lives of Pike County
Healthy Minds, Healthy Lives of Pike County is a coalition of community organizations working to increase mental health awareness, including a better understanding of the needs of people in recovery. One of their partners is Pike County Behavioral Health Services, which provides case management, substance abuse, and behavioral health services to Pike County residents who are underserved, uninsured, or underinsured.
St. Patrick Center
The St. Patrick Partnership Center offers over 25 assistance programs in one place. They serve residents of St. Louis and the surrounding counties who are currently homeless or struggling with challenges that may lead to homelessness. Some of the different programs available include substance abuse counseling, food assistance, referrals to shelters, tutoring, GED classes, life skills training, and affordable health or dental care.
